Ensuring Quality and Safety in Timber
Welcome to Verified Timber, your trusted source for structural timber quality assurance. Our programme guarantees that the timber used in your projects meets rigorous standards for strength and stiffness, ensuring safety and reliability.
Why Timber Strength Matters
Timber is a fundamental material in construction, supporting the structure and safety of buildings.
To withstand the demands of loads and environmental stresses, timber must meet specific strength and stiffness criteria.
The New Zealand building code requires that timber used in construction be verified for these properties to ensure structural integrity and safety over time.
Verifying the Strength of Timber
The Need for Verified Timber
In 2005, New Zealand's timber structures standard, NZS3603, was updated to mandate verification of timber strength and stiffness. This led to the introduction of NZS3622, setting the parameters for timber property verification. To address these requirements and provide a consistent way to ensure timber quality, the Verified Timber quality assurance programme was established.
What is Verified Timber?
Verified Timber is a quality assurance programme that certifies timber to meet the New Zealand standard NZS3622.
The Verified Timber trademark signifies that timber has been tested and meets stringent strength and stiffness criteria.
Only licensed producers who adhere to the Verified Timber Quality Manual and undergo regular audits can use the trademark.
How Verified Timber Works
Timber graded under Verified Timber can be assessed using two systems: machine stress grading or visual grading. Both systems involve rigorous testing through random sampling and properly calibrated equipment to maintain high standards. Each piece of timber is marked with its grade and the producer's information, ensuring transparency and trust in the product you use.
The Mark of Strength
The Verified Timber trademark represents a commitment to exceptional quality and safety. It signifies that the timber has been rigorously tested to meet New Zealand’s standards for strength and stiffness.
Timber with this mark has undergone stringent quality checks, ensuring it can handle construction demands and stand the test of time.
Choosing Verified Timber means you’re opting for a product that guarantees structural integrity and reliability.
